![]() ![]() He can create black hole grenades, turn invisible for brief periods via paracausal smoke bombs, and use the "Moebius Quiver," generating a bow of solid Void whose shots suppress the abilities of others.Ī word that is repeated in this little explanation is "paracausal" - this is the source of and justification for these abilities. In particular, he is a "Nightstalker" (mostly) - the flavor of Light he wields is known as "Void" aspected towards gravity, attraction, and dark energy. He can't kick off the ground ten times in an instant he can triple jump, and his standard jump is at least a solid 6 feet straight up.Īs a Hunter, he has access to a "Hunter Dodge" - which can be thought of as a flash-step. ![]() ![]() His powers come from this "paracausal energy" of Light as well as the small-scale matter fabrication and hyper-computive powers of his Ghost.Īt baseline, he gets a lot of the same "peak human+" feats and abilities as shonen protagonists. As such, he now has resurrective immortality so long as his Ghost exists (typically a dimension or two over) - the Ghost will bring him back in (roughly) the same place should he die. What that means is that at some point, he died, and was brought back by a Ghost - a small, sapient AI infused with the power of Light. He does not work on the same physics as the people in One Piece do.īarrett is a Guardian from Destiny - a Hunter. I'm glad this is non canon because Barrett going after the Strawhats deserves its own arc if it's to be explored but still, this is really high quality writing. The Strawhats voices and personalities were on point: Usoop panicked but believing in Luffy and attacking at the first sign of the enemy, Sanji's everything as already discussed, Zoro and Sanji bickering but keeping it abnormally short because the situation is serious and Luffy swinging between childish glee in a good fight to making decisions - giving orders. Franky's dramatic being dealt with was funny. Brook and Usoop aggressively not thinking about badly Nami got put down by Barrett double tapping her while at the same time not being able to stop thinking about it was great. The sense of desperation and raw emotion came across really well: with Sanji wrecking ships to both vent his rage and deny Barrett a means to leave the island being effective show not tell and good tactics while conveying the crew really don't want this guy coming after them (plus as noted by commentators Sanji wishing anyone to starve is pretty drastic given his childhood experiences-ideals if understandable because he doesn't know if Nami is going to live). (I'm profoundly amused by the implication that Barrett just became so done with dying again and again to overpowered attacks from Luffy that after a straight hour of fighting, he chose to sit under the rubble for a bit and let Luffy go back to his ship, most likely figuring that resuming the fight on the open ocean where falling in the sea water would incapacitate the Strawhat Captain was the way to go.) I also like that this doesn't diminish how powerful the crew is, Luffy being able to just keep battering Barrett for an hour while presumably dodging or blocking Barrett's Destiny tech counter attacks while an town gets razed in the crossfire speaks well of him. Echoing the other commentators when I say this a really great piece, I love how akin to the freakin terminator Barrett is from the Strawhat's perspective with a strong element of get the hell away - retreat from him in play. ![]()
